Work Outs for your Grip part two

POSTED BY admin on Jan 7 under Strength Training

We looked at the crushing grip, now we need to look at the pinch grip and twist grip which again are two very important building blocks to enable you to achieve the iron grip you want from your work outsIn the pinch grip you will be gripping with your palms facing down

Your fingers one side of the plate and your thumbs on the back side of the plate, sink your hands right down all the way into the fold between

your thumb and next finger, then almost trying to bend the plate in half by exerting force in both directions towards your little fingers then squeeze to lift the plate off the ground

You do this exercise by doing timed holds and really concentrating on the technique described above, there are specially made plates with rubber spacers you can buy to do the pinch grip

But I have found that to start off you can use ordinary weights say 2 x 10 k/g and put them together so the smooth surfaces of the weights are on the outside, because you do not want any ridges or lips to help you only smooth surfaces

This is particularly good for your work outs because you have to hold the two plates together as well.

Twist Grip

Well I have to say I really enjoy doing this exercise, in order to add this to your work outs you will need a flat surface to place your arm along, with your wrist and hand hanging over the edge of it. Now you will need a logging axe or sledgehammer with a 2 pound or near head on it, you do not need a heavy weight to do this.

With your arm placed along the flat surface and the Axe or Hammer, placed in your hand say a third of the way down the shaft twist your wrist to one side so the axe ends up horizontal on one side then twist up the other way past upright to the other side and horizontal then upright again that is one rep !

Remember to do this exercise in a slow and controlled manner and aim to do 3 sets of 10, then as you get used to that hand position move your hand half a hands width or slightly more down the shaft and work on that aiming to eventually be able to do this with the full axe/hammer head and shaft above your hand. Do this with both hands, you will build up nicely!
